Mr Devitt Goes to Washington

I was genuinely honored to be invited to testify before Congress on some of the issues surrounding open access and the 700 MHz spectrum auction in the US. More thoughts to follow when I have time; for more context on this piece, visit SaveTheInternet.

Update: more about this on the Skydeck blog.

Very cool. Great analogy in highways, it’s an example that anyone can understand.

Heard your remarks at the FCC meeting today. Spot on, and entertaining, too (thank you).

Hi there. I don’t know you, but I happened across a re-run of your testimony on C-SPAN the other evening, and I was riveted. Fostering innovation and competition is vital for our economic future, and your support of that position was very eloquent. Unfortunately, I don’t think lawmakers of either party really get it. Righties say they want market forces to guide the market but then often restrict that marketplace to big players; lefties tend to shun market-based solutions because the “market-based solutions” we’ve used before are neither truly market-based nor solutions.

I find your testimony fascinating easy to understand but I like most people feel that it fell on deaf ears. The politicians are taking money from these companies in one form or another regardless of party affiliation. The only answer to this problem is to vote out the encumbents, all of them. I have heard that this will leave no one who knows the system and nothing will get done, I suspect the opposite will happen.
